Experts Answer on Above Questions on Business Communication
Prompt Selected – the prompt selected is supporting teenagers mental health – Ministry of Health (MOH)
Infographic
The infographic is included in the appendix section, and the main message as evidence from the infographic is ” parents who listen without judgement improve teenagers mental wellbeing.
Why current MOH efforts are less effective
There a number of reasons and the most important one is the campaigns comprises general advice and lacks practical communication techniques for parents. Teenagers also do not like to discuss anxiety, stress or depression as they fear punishment. And finally parents also underestimate academic pressure, social media comparison and cyberbullying as mental health triggers.
Solutions recommended
The solutions recommended to introduce parent mental health coaching workshops, and they should emphasise on role playing difficult conversations, identifying early warning signs, guidance from psychologists and counsellors and monthly follow up webinars.
Why this will work
It will work because practical exposure enhances the confidence level of parents compared to brochures, the participation rate increases drastically from school based delivery as parents would be asked to attend school events, and continuous coaching is positive in reinforcing long term behavioural change.
Supporting evidence
There is significant rice in the mental health consultation among youth as reported by IMH. According to the findings from a National Youth mental health study, every one out of 3 young people experienced severe symptoms of depression, anxiety or stress. However supportive family communication is an important protective factor against mental illness as recognised by WHO.
Infographic – Group Designed
The infographic as prepared by the group indicates the main message as “start the conversation before teenagers stop talking”. It specifies the science of mental distress as withdrawal, sleep changes, declining grades and irritability. The three step communication model as described in the infographic emphasises on listening actively, validating emotions and seeking professional help early. The evidence includes the Ministry of Health Singapore statistics, institute of Mental Health reports and WHO adolescent mental health recommendations.
GenAI Reflection
The most effective infographic is the second one that is designed by the group whereas the AI generated infographic was not that effective because it was produced quickly, professional layout is used and included attractive graphics but the illustrations are generic, statistics are not appropriate to Singapore, and the message is not specifically targeted to parents. The group infographic is better because it utilised recent statistics from Singapore MOH and IMH data, included practical tips targeted to local families, and better call to action.
Ethical use of GenAI
The best approach to consider in utilising GenAI is to apply it as a drafting and brainstorming tool, and human reviewers should perform complete review in the form of proper editing and reference of information. This is mainly because AI is quick in generating ideas and headline options that reduces design time, and human fact checking prevents any kind of accuracy or outlet information.
Group reflection
The group performance was highly effective mainly because the strategy utilised was to divide the responsibility within members according to research, graphic design, content writing and proofreading. This division of work reduces the completion time, and specialisation helps significantly in delivery.
